Music for Film

Film

The films below are examples of my collaborations with filmmakers. Each film had a very unique process, and my role was different from project to project. In most of the projects I’ve been the composer, musician, and sound editor; sometimes I’ve also acted as a co-producer, occasionally even as an actor.

Eliza film poster

Eliza · 2008

A short film by filmmaker Mitch Temple. Mitch describes the film: “Eliza is the story of a young woman growing up in East L.A. She falls for a young man named Marcos, and is also given a chance to change the course of her life. Eliza is about the subtleties of choice and the nature of sacrifice.” Eliza was part of LA Shorts Film Festival, Los Angeles, 2008.

This Place Called Poetry · 2008

In 2008, filmmaker Katharine Gin and I worked on eleven short films portraying eleven youth poets in San Francisco. These films were included in an exhibition at San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery, and celebrated the 15th anniversary of WritersCorps — an organization that teaches creative writing to low-income youth in San Francisco. There is no music in the films; my role was as co-producer and sound editor.

Limbo film poster

Limbo · 2007

A fiction film by Mitch Temple with a very imaginative and surreal story. Parts of the music for Limbo are composed and performed by Nacka Forum.

Désiré · 2003

An experimental dance video by choreographer Nathalie Ruiz, made in collaboration with Swedish Television (SvT), part of an SvT initiative inviting choreographers to transform their work with dance and movement for the screen. It has been shown several times on Swedish National TV. I composed the music and did the sound editing.

Don’t Stop Me Now · 2007

By filmmaker Katharine Gin. It follows four undocumented youth and their path to achieve a higher education despite many obstacles along the way. It has been screened at numerous colleges, universities, high schools, community organizations, and film festivals across the country.

Film stills and posters from the original site weren’t part of this upload — send those over (or the old Music_For_Film_files folder) and I'll drop them in alongside each entry.
